In 1960, Fontano’s Subs opened our first location in Chicagos’ Little Italy neighborhood. News traveled quickly about the great sandwiches being made. Since then, Fontano’s has received recognition as serving Chicago’s #1 from the Chicago Sun Times food critic, Pat Bruno. “A Serious Sub Shop. The Italian Blockbuster is a Meat and Cheese Extravaganza – Delicious Eating.” In addition, we are proud of our Zagat rating of 25! “It’s all in the bread” (and “finest deli meats”) at this “native” Chicago chainlet cranking out “awesome” subs “the way they should be” (“no wimpy” offerings); “you know it’s good because all the cops eat here”, but plenty opt for takeout since “it’s a slice of life, not a fine-dining atmosphere.”
